Day 9 - West Maui Circumnavigation

Hike to lava pools near Lipoa Point...
Poor dead trigger fish...
There is some serious fishing that happens here...
Hike via the longer way to Nakalele Point Blow Holes...
Nature has a way with patterns.  Neil even saw a confused bee inside one of the cells...
Lava heart at the bigger blow hole...
This dude would have been pressing his luck on a rougher day...
The main one did not blow much more than this...
The smaller and safer one was more exciting...
It looks like a sand dune, but it is more like cement...
We hiked down to the tide pools near the community of Kahakuloa...
The kids saw others swimming and begged me to swim.  Good thing I had their swim suits in my pack...
Live action video...
In the smaller, but warmer pool...
Looking down at the tide pools on the hike back up...
Kahakuloa Head...

The small community of Kahakuloa.  We bought some banana bread, taro chips and yummy coconut candy at Julia's stand...
Roadside art...
Nyleen with waterfall far below the road...
The notice says abandoned vehicle...
The area near Mendes Ranch had some great up-drafts for paragliding...

We ate dinner at Tasty Crust in Wailuku.  I had the Loco Moco.  I feel like I am traveling with Jake and Elwood Blues - Neil had a tuna sandwich and Nyleen had a saimin again.

We got to Ioa Valley after dinner with about an hour before it closed.  Ioa Needle...
Probably the highlight for the kids was all the chickens in the parking lot.  Neil did not want his final cream puff from Makawao, so they had fun feeding the baby chicks...
Mama chicken seems to like the custard part of the Makawao cream puff...
