We stopped near Haiku to visit with the owner of the condo where we are staying. He showed us around his farm-like home and gave use some passion fruit, nutmeg and a ripe cacao (chocolate) bean pod. He was a nice guy and I can highly recommend his rent reduced condo in Napili Bay.
We stopped twice in Komoda Store and Bakery in Makawao. Neil got a box of cream puffs, Nyleen got a donut and I had donuts on a stick and a very tasty Long John. They were sold out of the guava malasadas. I picked up another 2 Long John's (for later consumption) and the kids got ice cream dibs when we stopped there again after our visit in Haiku.
We then spent the afternoon up in the high country of Haleakala National Park. We ate our lunch at Hosmer's Grove and chatted with a park ranger who gave the kids the Junior Ranger activity booklets to work on.
We saw lots of Chukars but no Nene. A Pheasant....
At the top - it was cloudy below so we had only partial views of the mountain valley...
We hiked about 2 miles down the Sliding Sands trail...
Nyleen was dragging on the hike back up. I yearn to hear the whining...
We had dinner at Okazuya Deli in Honokowai on the way home. We tried stopping at Aloha Mixed Plate in Lahaina, but they had too long of a wait.
